American Association of Sunday and Features Editors Writing Contest Asia Society Osborn Elliott Prize for Excellence in Journalism on Asia Asian American Journalists Association National Awards The Society of Professional Journalists wants to increase high school students' knowledge and understanding of the importance of independent media to our lives.

National winners of this essay contest receive scholarship awards. The Sigma Delta Chi Foundation of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Journalism Education Association has proud to announce High School Essay Contest for all students in grades 912 in public, private and home schools. 2. Contestants must compose an original essay with limited guidance from others.

The Journalism Education Association and Society of Professional Journalists will have the right to edit, publish or otherwise duplicate any essay entered into the contest without payment to the author. 4. The Journalism Education Association and the Society of Professional Journalists announce three scholarship winners in the 2018 SPJJEA High School Essay Contest. Over 220 students participated in the nationwide contest, which was judged by 28 journalism educators.

Established in 1998, the contest is a project of both JEA and SPJ. The contests judges were members of the Society of Professional Journalists in Colorado.
